I Curated Cocktails & Convo as a live segment on instagram to build community over cocktails. When Cocktails & Convo launched in 2017, I was just a corporate girly with a small business trying to figure things out. Trying to find balance between corporate life and following my purpose, I knew it was time to get creative in front of the camera.
The Purpose
The goal was to create a live-streaming shopping vibe with a talk show formula. With the influence of icons like Wendy Williams and the power of networks like HSN I infused the 2 and added cocktails for a girls night vibe. It was genius!!
I wanted to build my brand and connect to my community while standing out from the rest and I knew that was going to take creativity and confidence.
The Preparation
I first tested Cocktails & Convo on Periscope which was a popular live stream app at the time before instagram launched the feature. Once Instagram launched the live feature I jumped on it right away since I was already practicing on Periscope.
Years prior I was preparing myself to be in front of the camera by launching a personal Youtube channel where I talked about things from wigs, beauty, to confidence. I created a record, edit, and posting schedule to fall on the weekends when I was off from my corporate job and not only did I start to receive brand collabs I also became comfortable in front of the camera and with editing. With each video I would add product placement of whatever product I was selling from my personal brand at the time while inspiring women.
The Evolution
Between 2017-2020 I consistently showed up on Fabulous Fridays at 9pm est to go live on Instagram but March of 2020, Cocktails & Convo was a lot different. We were suddenly faced with a global pandemic and luckily I already had tools in place to engage with my community.
I knew this wasn't a time to sell anything, everyone was stressed and confused but instead I used my influence to encourage my audience to stay fabulous by still looking good at home. This is when the light bulb went off in my head to began designing my very own luxury loungewear.
Cocktails & Convo was the pivotal tool that helped me elevate SDesirebrand. Those consistent Fabulous Fridays did not go in vain. Between 2020-2022 there were alot of challenges and changes personally and professionally and we took a hiatus after 2022 to focus on rebranding and the elevation of what we built and in 2024 we returned on Youtube.
